Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – J.J. Abrams Feels The Film Would Have Made Carrie Fisher Happy

Episode IX, the one where Skywalker rises, and the end of what we all know as, “the saga.” Less than a month now and Disney will have completed their first trilogy since buying the franchise back in 2012 for $4.5 billion. Director of the upcoming film, J.J. Abrams, has been replaced by a Westworld level android in order to do the massive amount of promotion Disney requires.

Abrams, who has been making the rounds on the publicity circuit briefly spoke about Carrie Fisher while speaking with Esquire. Asked if any of Fisher’s family had seen the film yet J.J. respectfully decided not to talk about the subject, but did say he feels they did right by her in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. You can check out what he had to say below

“I don’t want to talk about that, per se, because it just — I don’t think it’s quite my place, although I would love to go and talk about it, but I will say that nothing has been more important to me than making sure we do something that Carrie herself would have been happy with, and proud of. And I feel like we’ve done that.”

I am interested to see how her previously shot scenes will be blended into the upcoming film. Fisher’s Princess Leia is one of the finer examples of a smart, tough, capable, and just an overall badass female character.

This is the Skywalker saga, meaning if you ask me anyway the focus of this trilogy should have been on the Skywalkers. I feel they were more used to draw in older fans as opposed to being key to the story. Introducing Rey and Kylo could still have been done, but they should have been the secondary characters while the story of the original trio and Chewy was wrapped up. The NEXT trilogy could have and should have been Rey and Kylo’s after they were introduced in the current one.
