andrew-garfield-as-spider-man-wallpaperWith all the recent buzz surrounding The Amazing Spider-Man 2, actor Andrew Garfield is surely going to be answering lots of questions about his work as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the coming months. He’s all ready gotten the ball rolling in terms of intriguing quotes, though, thanks to a couple of comments he maid in an interview with Yahoo Movies.

For one thing, he’s promising that the sequel will pack quite a punch for longtime fans of the titular character. He claims to have been deeply moved by the script, and the direction that the story has taken after the first film.

“I sat with [writers] Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman in a restaurant for lunch in New York, and they pitched me this movie… And I was crying. I was really emotionally moved by what they said to me. And I think a lot of my emotion was because these two guys love the character as much as I do.”

But things got really interesting when the actor was asked about his continued involvement in the series, which director Marc Webb admitted he had envisioned as a trilogy, now that it’s been announced that Sony has plans for at least a fourth film. At the mention of this, the actor expresses that his participation is far from a foregone conclusion.

“That’s all news to me. I mean, I’m under contract for another one after this… as far as a fourth one? That’s not anything to do with me.

The British thesp can’t be totally honest here, as Sony revealed their Spider-Man plans quite a while ago. So perhaps he’s just being coy and/or preparing for an intense contract negotiation. Or is there a chance Sony is prepared to keep a rotating door when it comes to Peter Parker, and truly make him a James Bond-type figure, with different actors stepping in and out as the series wears on?

What do you think, cool kids? Do you want to see Garfield continue on indefinitely as web head? Or are you cool with new actors stepping into the existing continuity and “passing the baton”?
