4DX Review: Hobbs & Shaw

Please note that this is a film review of the experience with 4DX technology with the film. 4DX features seats which move in three dimensions and vibrate with other experiences, including wind, water, fog, bubbles, rain, snow and storm lighting. Synopsis: Ever since hulking lawman Hobbs, a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw, a former British military elite operative, first faced off in Furious 7, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they’ve tried to take each other down.

But when a cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever – and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent, who happens to be Shaw’s sister – these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves.

Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby and Helen Mirren

4DX Experience Review: Hobbs & Shaw is made for the 4DX experience. Unlike the previous films using 4DX technology, Hobbs & Shaw is probably the closest on utilizing the full 4DX experience to include the motion movements, lighting effects, smoke effects, water sprays and even the smell.

The biggest notable and most enjoyable feature will be with the seat motion movements in the film. Hobbs & Shaw has plenty of car action sequences that’ll take you left and right to the point that you think you’re on a rollercoaster at Six Flags. The only downside to the 4DX experience is that the film has so much motion action sequences that you’ll feel like you’re a recipient of shaken baby syndrome. As for the fist fight sequences, there are plenty of bumps and bruises you’ll feel between Hobbs, Shaw and Brixton. A lot less than John Wick: Chapter 3, which was also featured in 4DX. However, plenty enough.

The smoke effects are utilized well in this film. There are scenes with burning vehicles and an obsolete nuclear power plant destruction initiate the smoke sequences at the front of the theater. The smoke clears quickly enough to not hinder the following sequences and spoil the rest of the cinematic experience.

Although, I personally didn’t noticed it, but my guests of mine did were the smell. My guests claimed they could smell cooked breakfast in a scene with Hobbs and Shaw. And in multiple sequences, there were the smell of tires.

There is a couple of scenes, in which you’ll get the splash of water. No worries. 4DX water experience is more like a sprinkle mist. The only experience that didn’t quite work for me is the lightning flash occurrences from a gun muzzle. It’s only due to the fact that the light flash comes from the side while you’re staring at the screen, which becomes more of a distraction.

Overall, Hobbs & Shaw is the ultimate audition for the 4DX technology utilizing everything at its disposal. If you haven’t experienced 4DX yet, this may be the film to experience it with.
