A Mystery Franchise, What X-Men They’d Love To Work On, And How Long They’ve Known About Tony Stark’s Fate – Russo Brother AMA Round Up

The Russo’s are taking a well-earned break from Marvel Studios and the MCU right now, after guiding the ending of the Infinity Saga to its conclusion and breaking box office records in the process. The Russo’s are currently focussing on their new AGBO studio and making some smaller scale movies, but everyone wants to know when they’ll be back making blockbusters, or if they’ll come back to Marvel Studios.

Yesterday the Russo Brothers took part in an AMA on Reddit and answered many questions from fans, in this article we are breaking down the most important nuggets of information the Russo’s provided in their answers.

Endgame

The Russo’s were asked about what the most difficult scene to film was in Endgame. They did not take long to mention the death scene of Tony Stark as the most difficult to film, and said that whilst many of the stars new what they were filming, they almost couldn’t fully trust it all because of the secrecy involved. The directors also went on to say that they have known the fate of Tony Stark for around three years, so that’s roughly about the time Civil War was in theaters.

Mystery Franchise

The Russo’s were asked what franchises they would be interested in exploring in the future, whilst they gave us literally no information, they did give us enough to tease that something is being worked on.

We are quietly, and secretly working on one right now…”

Who knows whether this is something from the Disney stable, something else entirely, or a hint that they may come back to Marvel Studios further down the line. Fans pointed to the Russo’s previous mentions of Secret Wars being a story from Marvel they’d like to adapt, but no more info was divulged from the director siblings. We already know they are producing a Battle of the Planets movie, but that’s neither secret nor quiet since they announced this at SDCC a few weeks ago.

X-Men

The Russo Brothers were also asked specifically what X-Men character they’d love to work on and the answer was pretty straightforward.

“We’ve always loved us some Wolverine.”

Wolverine is a character I’d like Marvel to introduce before they even really get to X-Men as a team, and if the Russo’s were willing to shepherd the character arc the way they did with Captain America, I think fans would be more than happy. It also seems like it will be a few years before we see any sign of Logan appearing in the MCU, which might just be perfect for when the Russo’s want to come back. They’ve said previously that if asked, they would jump at the chance to work with Marvel Studios again in the future.

Whilst the AMA covered a lot more content than this, I think the majority of the questions and answers were information we already know as they have spoken about it previously. However, the questioned covered above do certainly give us a few more hints as to where their thinking is going next, along with just how far ahead the ending of Avengers: Endgame was planned.

I think the Russo’s have definitely won over the respect of fanboy’s and fangirls around the world for the work they have done with The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame, as have their writing partners Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. I for one can’t wait to see what this foursome cook up next when they decide to get back to big budget movies. I also hope we will see them all back in the MCU at some point in the future.
