A Private War Trailer Sees Rosamund Pike Gunning For An Oscar

When Rosamund Pike first hit the scene years back, she was often criticized for her one-note performances — performances that often left many audiences wanting. But then David Fincher directed her in the deeply disturbing and engrossing Gone Girl, where Pike allowed herself to go off the deep end into new territory. The performance landed her an Oscar nomination.

Sadly, the actual trophy was not in the bag for her, but that didn’t stop her from making an impact. Now, in her upcoming movie A Private War, it looks like she’s aiming for the top prize at next year’s Oscar. In the film, she is set to take on the role of war correspondent Marie Colvin. While there doesn’t appear to be any overarching plot relayed in the trailer, it does look like we’ll be having a dual storyline, with her dealing with her desire to get back into the action while at home, as well as her life on the frontlines.

Below is the official synopsis for A Private War:

“In a world where journalism is under attack, Marie Colvin (Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike) is one of the most celebrated war correspondents of our time. Colvin is an utterly fearless and rebellious spirit, driven to the frontlines of conflicts across the globe to give voice to the voiceless, while constantly testing the limits between bravery and bravado. After being hit by a grenade in Sri Lanka, she wears a distinctive eye patch and is still as comfortable sipping martinis with London’s elite as she is confronting dictators. Colvin sacrifices loving relationships, and over time, her personal life starts to unravel as the trauma she’s witnessed takes its toll. Yet, her mission to show the true cost of war leads her — along with renowned war photographer Paul Conroy (Jamie Dornan) — to embark on the most dangerous assignment of their lives in the besieged Syrian city of Homs. Based on the extraordinary life of Marie Colvin, A PRIVATE WAR is brought to the screen by Academy Award nominee and critically acclaimed documentary filmmaker Matthew Heineman in his pulse-pounding narrative feature debut.”

Will this film actually be able to lock down an Oscar for the actress, or will it come across as too ham-fisted for audiences? We’ll have to wait and see.
