Addams Family Animated Film Begins Production

Production has officially begun on the animated The Addams Family film with production company Cinesite in Vancouver, Deadline reports. The film comes from Sausage Party director Conrad Vernon, and is set to be a CG animated affair. The script comes from Corpse Bride and Monster House scribe Pamela Pettler.

Of course, this impending animated film is based on the Addams Family single-panel comic of the same name. The strip was later adapted into an live-action TV show, where the iconic opening song was born. From there, it had several runs in animated form before the Barry Sonnenfeld films came along.

It’ll be interesting to see how this film turns out. While Sausage Party was a huge success, a part of its success came from the fact that it was made on a ridiculously small budget. Later on, there was a controversy surrounding the production, which reportedly had less-than-favorable working conditions. Is MGM expecting to make this one for a similar $20ish million, or are they looking to spend more in the realm of, say, $40 million?

More than anything else, it’ll be cool to see what the visual style of the film will be, as its dark humor can be amplified, depending on the overall look.
