Aladdin: New Images Show Off Jafar, Abu, And Jasmine’s Friend

Doing a proper live-action remake is a tough business. You’re walking a real fine line constantly. On one hand, you’re working hard to ensure fans of the original get what they want while injecting enough new to justify its existence. Of course, a lot of that has to do with the story itself, but the actual look of the characters can be understated in terms of their importance. Such is the case for the upcoming Aladdin film.

We’ve already had plenty of glimpses of Genie, Aladdin, and Jasmine, and I must say, they’ve done a very good job capturing the essence of the film with these guys in terms of their look and costuming. EW has released a whole batch of photos, and in them, we see two other familiar faces with Abu and Jafar.

As with the other characters (as well as the recent Beauty and the Beast remake), these are essentially more detailed takes on their animated forms, with there clearly being a lot of care and attention given to the costumes themselves. I mean, just look at Jafar’s costume there. Pristine. And Abu? His vest works well on him.

One of the photos also shows off a brand-new character with no animated equivalent, played by Nasim Pedrad (New Girl). The character’s name is Dalia, and she is Jasmine’s best friend and handmaiden who helps the princess wade through the suitors. If you’re worried they’re including her so they don’t have to include a CG tiger in the form of Rajah, fret not — Rajah will be present and accounted for here as well.

What do you think of these images and costumes? Do they get you any more excited for the film to come? Let us know your thoughts down below!
