Amy Adams Thriller Woman In The Window Delayed By Disney To Fix Confusing Ending

Ever since Disney took over 20th Century Fox, it hasn’t been afraid to clean house. We’ve seen tons of employees fired, an overall slimming down of the slate, and the shuttering of the banner Fox 2000. But, in spite of this shuttering, there is still one film left that will get released: the Amy Adams-starring thriller The Woman in the Window.

The Woman in the Window is an adaptation of the best-selling novel by A.J. Finn about a “woman in the window” who witnesses a crime. It’s one of those books that comes recommended alongside the likes of Gone Girl, so you can imagine expectations were relatively high.

However, according to THR, the film is being pushed from its 2019 release date to 2020. The reason has to do with the third act of the film, which reportedly takes place “inside the mind of Adams’ depressed character.” As such, test screenings have proven confusing for test audiences.

Director Joe Wright will reportedly shoot pickups next month for the flick.

“We’re dealing with a complex novel,” says Fox 2000 president Elizabeth Gabler. “We tested the movie really early for that very reason. We wanted to make it better, and we’ve had Disney’s full support in doing that.”

At least this seems to be an indication that Fox 2000 will go out with a bang, not a whimper — or at least that’s the hope. Novels are notriously introspective, so I can understand the difficulty in capturing the same essence of the story without losing anything else in the process.
