Ant-Man 2: Kevin Feige Calls Michelle Pfeiffer’s Performance Iconic

In the original Ant-Man film, audiences got a tease to a previous generation of the Ant-Man and the Wasp. Of course, Hank Pym was the original Ant-Man, but the original Wasp was none other than his very own wife, Janet van Dyne.

As was outlined in that film, the two worked side by side, until one day, where she ended up in the Quantum Realm, because she went too small. The assumption was at the time that she had pretty much shrunk into nothingness, but even then, Marvel Studios laid the groundwork to bring her back. In that same film, we saw Ant-Man shrink into the Quantum Realm, only to successfully un-shrink himself after.

With that in mind, Janet could come back, right? We already know that actress Michelle Pfeiffer is taking on that role, but she was all but absent from the trailer. But what can we expect from her character? Speaking with Vulture, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said praised the actress on her performance, saying:

“I don’t want to say too much, but I will say that’s she’s every bit as iconic and amazing in this part as you would imagine. People ask sometimes about movie stars and star power and who’s the most exciting person to be around, and the truth is that once you get to know them as people, they don’t feel like movie stars — everybody is just a super-impressive human. But in a room full of movie stars, Michelle Pfeiffer rises to the top.”

Sadly, this doesn’t give us much to work with in terms of what we can expect from Janet van Dyne in the movie, but given how much they have to work with from that first movie, they really don’t need to push her all that much. Better to leave her out of most of the marketing so she provides a more surprising emotional punch in the movie itself, right?
