Ant-Man And The Wasp Director Thinks The Wasp Should Run All-Female Avengers

The Me Too movement has hit Hollywood, and with the proliferation of strong women in front of and behind the camera, there’s been tons of fan speculation and requests that the Avengers get the all-female treatment in the future — or at least some movie with an all-female cast.

It may have taken them a good while, but in the past few years, Marvel Studios has really doubled down on populating their cinematic universe with cool women, including Black Widow, Okoye, Shuri, The Wasp, Scarlet Witch, and even more. As it stands, there are more than enough of them to pull off a good movie. In at the past, actress Evangeline Lilly has expressed her desire to see Captain Marvel ultimately run the show if that were to happen, but who does Ant-Man and the Wasp director want to see take over such an alliance?

I’d like [the Wasp] running things,” he told The Huffington Post. “I’d like to see her as the head of the all-female Avengers. I know Evangeline sort of said … maybe that would be Captain Marvel, because she does have the word “captain” in her name. But I think Hope van Dyne is a very decisive leader and a tactician, in addition to being a brilliant scientist. So she checks a lot of boxes in terms of who’s going to be running the Avengers, theoretically.”

Admittedly, this is quite the tough one. While I don’t necessarily think this would ever happen, if it did, and Black Widow was still around, I’d very much want to see her take on that lead role. That being said, I can also see the likes of Okoye and Shuri wanting to take control, and we’re left with an embarrassment of riches.

As it stands, I think seeing them stand by the male characters in the franchise is the way to go, but I’m not sure there’s any wrong answer to this question, should Marvel Studios opt to do a female-centric movie.
