Ant-Man & The Wasp Gets A Shooting Start Date

Every year or so, Marvel Studios takes on a project that could potentially expose a weakness in their brand. In 2014, it was Guardians of the Galaxy that they staked their reputation on, and more recently, it was Doctor Strange — and both films worked to expand the Marvel universe as we know it. In 2015, however, there was another film that also put the studio’s reputation in the line, and that was Ant-Man.

Following the release of the decent, but disappointing, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man was as film that brought things back to the ground — real close to the ground. While the name Ant-Man was enough to get mainstream audiences chuckling, the film turned out to be a refreshing palate cleanserafter Ultron’s huge scope, and the positive word of mouth seemed to do it good, as it ended its theatrical run with a solid $519 million worldwide, making it the second most successful character intro film at the time behind Iron Man.

Some time after that, Marvel Studios announced that a sequel titled Ant Man and the Wasp would be hitting theaters on July 6, 2018, meaning that as of this writing, it’s a year and four months from release. In order to get to the theaters in time, it would have to go into production soon. So when is soon?

Thanks to an updated listing on the site My Entertainment World, we now know.

As you can see, the next Marvel film is slated to begin filming on July 6, 2017, exactly one year before its release date. This is an updated shoot date, as earlier this year, we reported that it was on course for a June shooting date. Admittedly, this is a bit surprising. More often than not, a superhero film will have being shooting 13-18 months prior to its release date, but with Ant-Man and the Wasp, they’re only giving themselves 12. Granted, Marvel Studios definitely has this system down to a science, so I don’t think this is something to be worried about.

In addition, with this sequel, I don’t expect it will be on the same scale as the past two entries — nor any of the entries we’ll be seeing from Marvel this year. When all said and done, there’s a chance the production of this film will be a cakewalk compared to the films they’ve been doing more recently.

Are you excited to see the return of Ant-Man next year? Did his appearance in Captain America: Civil War give you an extra dose of enthusiasm for his character? Let us know your thoughts down below!
