Apple Announces Its New Streaming Service, Apple TV+

Today was Apple’s highly anticipated special event live from the Steve Jobs theatre at Apple HQ. While the event kicked off with new announcements for Apple’s News, Pay, and App Store services, there was one thing on everyone’s mind: Apple’s own digital streaming service to compete with Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. Eventually, the time came for Apple to break the news, and it came with the help of an all-star lineup.

Kicked off with a short piece featuring some of the top names in filmmaking, Apple TV+ was presented to the world. The first to speak regarding the network was the legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg, who gave a brief synopsis on the series his production company Amblin Entertainment has partnered with Apple on. From there, the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Steve Carrell, Jason Momoa, Alfre Woodard, JJ Abrams and more presented small introductions to their respective productions that will be featured on the new network.

Arguably saving the best for last, Oprah Winfrey appeared on the theatre stage. She presented to pieces she has coming to the network: a documentary on sexual harassment and abuse and live talk show with authors of her favorite new books. CEO Tim Cook came out to greet the media queen and thanked everyone for attending and watching the special event. The entire event can be seen again through the link below

What we do know is that Apple TV+ will feature original shows and movies from some of Hollywood’s most creative talents, all within the Apple TV app. Additionally, the network is set to go live this fall. What is unknown currently is how much the subscription will be and if it will be able to contend with the current big three streaming networks.

What do you think of Apple’s new media streaming service? Will they be able to compete with Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon? Will you buy a subscription? Let us know in the comments field below!
