Apple Plans On Releasing Feature Films In Theaters, Hopes To Avoid Netflix Pitfalls

Apple TV+

Netflix has spent the past several years working hard for credibility in the film industry. It’s been very difficult for them to overcome certain obstacles and actually contend with theatrical releases for big prizes like Academy Awards, and every year, it seems like there’s some other big festival they rub the wrong way thanks to their customer-centric approach to releases.

Apple TV+ is coming out very soon, and as you would expect, there are questions surrounding whether or not they hope to release their feature films theatrically.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple indeed has plans to release their films theatrically, and more than that, it appears they have extended olive branches to theater-industry reps. They are hoping to release their films weeks before they become available on their streaming service, and in doing so, will attract big directors and producers and avoid some of the pitfalls Netflix stumbled into.

Conversely, Netflix typically requires that their films play at the same time as they release online, which limits their ability to play in major chains.

What do you think of Apple’s approach for this? Should Netflix follow suit and meet some of the other industries halfway? Let us know down below!
