Aquaman: Warner Bros. Courting James Wan For Sequel

It was only a matter of time before this happened. While Aquaman was nowhere near the critical darling Wonder Woman was, its overseas figures were enough to really blow it past all expectations. Not only did Aquaman do well enough for a first movie in a new franchise, but it pretty much blew every other DC film out of the water.

As of this writing, Aquaman has taken in $1.091Bn worldwide, beating out The Dark Knight Rises as the highest grossing DC film of all time. That’s right. Not just DCEU film. DC film period. The man who used to be the butt of all kinds of jokes is now DC’s highest grosser. Let that sink in for a minute, because beating out Batman ain’t no small feat.

Now, it comes as no surprise that Warner Bros. is courting Aquaman director James Wan for a sequel. According to Deadline, they are looking for Wan to help develop the sequel, which will include him selecting the scribes to take on the duty. He will then have the decision of whether or not he will direct the film based on whether or not he likes the script. Talk about power, right? Well, it’s worth noting that James Wan has made real history with Aquaman, becoming the only film director to make a billion-dollar film at two different studios, with his first being Furious 7.

However, while the man has the pick of the litter in terms of properties he’ll be willing and able to helm, all signs are pointing him to being incredibly invested in the Aquaman world he helped establish.

Are you excited to see Wan helping develop Aquaman 2 and do you want to see him direct it when the script is done? Let me know your thoughts down below!
