Aquaman Won’t Have Any Other Justice League Characters In It

Part of the fun of going to a superhero movie these days are the hints and nods towards other characters within the world. No longer do these superheroes live in a bubble, and at any moment, one major hero can have their story collide with another. It’s part of what makes the Marvel Cinematic Universe work so well and it’s part of what keeps everyone excited about the DC Extended Universe

But what about the upcoming Aquaman film? Can we expect any other Justice League members to stand alongside Arthur Curry in his latest adventure? Speaking with EW, director James Wan broke the news, saying:

“I wanted to keep the story to the world of Aquaman and not have to worry about what other characters are doing in their films and how that would affect us. I just thought the simplest way was to keep it clean — keep it simple and let it be an Aquaman story.”

While one could argue whether or not seeing Aquaman on the big screen is something fans will come out to see, but this overall approach is a good one. The reason the MCU worked so well is because it allowed their characters to work well together on their own before clashing them together. The DC Universe, on the other hand, kind of rushed things with their world, and as such, the enthusiasm has been a bit muted.

Focusing to make each character work as a standalone is the best way to get us to care, and by eliminating other Justice League members, they’re letting all the focus fall on Aquaman.
