Are You Hyped for Virtual Crunchyroll Expo This Weekend? Check out the Full Lineup!

New Crunchy City is all ready to host the Virtual Crunchyroll Expo. I enjoyed the bits of DC FanDome I was able to catch, so I’m excited to see what Crunchyroll brings to the arena of virtual conventions.

The Lineup

For those of you who have not heard, the Virtual Crunchyroll Expo is a digital take on Crunchyroll’s yearly flagship convention. And it is happening this Labor Day weekend from September 4th–6th. A huge lineup of guests will be there, including the legendary horror artist Junji Ito, as well as creative staff and voice actors from Crunchyroll Original series like The God of High School, EX-ARM, GIBIATE, and Noblesse as well as Dr. STONE among many others.

I’m pumped for the panels with The God of High School creators and some of the producers of Dr. STONE. The latter has been my favorite anime in a long time and I can’t wait for Season 2 in January 2021.

There will also be world and domestic U.S. premieres of both the monstrous GIBIATE episode 9 and the first five minutes of Crunchyroll Originals new series Noblesse

There will also be a “Professional Athletes of Anime” panel including Aries Merritt, Olympic Gold Medalist for Team USA in track and field; Cole Anthony, a rising star in the American basketball scene playing for the North Carolina Tar Heels; and Miro, who you may know better as the Bulgarian Brute, Rusev. I had no idea he was an anime fan, but if you’ve watched any of his streams, you can definitely tell.

And of course, we can’t forget the panels. An extensive slate of panels are scheduled, including a Rent-a-Girlfriend Q&A with the voice actors, a discussion on race in anime from Arthell Isom (CEO of D’ART Shtajio) and Roland Kelts (author of “JAPANAMERICA”). A conversation with horror artist Junji Ito on anime’s best cats is on my list of panels to check out. Also scheduled is legendary Rock M. Sakura as a judge for Hime’s Cosplay Cup. There will also be a discussion from black women pioneering the anime fandom space in the panel, “Black Girl Magic: anime edition.” More industry panels from Crunchyroll and Crunchyroll Games have also been announced as well. They’re packing in a lot of content for one weekend.

Crunchyroll Games will also showcase exclusive gameplay content and announcements alongside the game developers and creative staff of NextNinja, Bandai Namco Entertainment, and Gaudium, the studio behind the upcoming Crunchyroll Game, “Grand Alliance.”

The Crunchyroll Store will also be releasing tropical-themed apparel celebrating V-CRX 2020 later this week. Stay tuned to crunchyrollexpo.com for more information on new merch.

DC had the Hall of Heroes, and Crunchyroll has New Crunchy City. Fans can navigate through a series of districts using an immersive take on a virtual New Crunch City. This replicates what fans are used to seeing at conventions. You can find panels, premieres, and screenings in the Theater District. There will also be fan activations and activities in the Super Arcade, which sounds awesome. An artist alley will be available for fans to purchase directly from each artist’s store in the Anime Arts District. And there will also be an exhibitor hall in the Central Shopping District.

Musical performances from Myth & Roid and TeddyLoid. Panels will be available to stream live in the Theater District at Virtual Crunchyroll Expo. Panels will also be uploaded to the V-CRX On-Demand section periodically throughout the weekend to ensure fans can catch up on any of the action they might have missed.

It’s Free!

Sign-up for the event is completely free, so that beats any convention price out there. International registration for V-CRX is open at crunchyrollexpo.com. Crunchyroll is encouraging the global anime community to sign up for a free pass to the event. Panels, guests, music, cosplay, merch, world premieres…sounds like they’ve got a little something for every die-hard anime fan. I will definitely be catching this one.
