Arrested Development Season 5 Will Be Split Into Two Parts With Different Release Dates

Bad news, fellow Arrested Development fans. (“There are dozens of us! Dozens!”)

While Netflix has been very generous with Arrested Development this month, announcing and releasing the Season 4 Remix: Fatal Consequences in the same week, and later letting us know Season 5 was headed our way on May 29! Unfortunately, the latter statement is only partially true…

Netflix will indeed be releasing the fifth installment of the saga of the Bluths on May 29, as promised, but it will not be the full season, according to The Wrap.

A spokesperson from Netflix told The Wrap that the upcoming fifth season will be split in half, with eight episodes dropping on May 29 with the rest to premiere… later. But, we don’t know this later date…

“Come on!”

I don’t remember seeing a confirmation on number of episodes before, but at least now I know we’re getting sixteen. A break in the middle is not uncommon for a Network show, and the fourth season was just recut to work as a network show, even adding act breaks for commercials.

Hopefully this was planned all along, with a mid-season cliffhanger of sorts. More importantly, hopefully we don’t have to wait too long between part one and two of the season!

UPDATE: EW shares that Arrested Development Season 5 is not the only series Netflix is splitting into two parts:

“Netflix has split seasons on such comedies as The Ranch and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, whose first six episodes of its final season will debut May 30. The streamer is releasing those first half-seasons of Arrested and Kimmy just in time for Emmy consideration, as the deadline is May 31.”

Are you bummed you’re not getting all sixteen episodes of Arrested Development all at once? Or will it help you not to burn through the series in one sitting, as I do? Let us know in the comment section below!
