Arrow Is Returning To Its Roots, Returning Star Says

TV is an interesting medium. Unlike films, which are often one-and-done projects (though increasingly less so nowadays), there is plenty of time for stories to fall off the rails. There are countless television shows out there that started off strong only to peter out down the line for one reason or another.

Some shows that fall into that category are 24, Sherlock, and Scrubs. The reasons behind these changes vary from show to show, but in many cases, it’s a situation where it’s evolved past its strong premise and completely changed into something different. Perhaps it’s gone in a direction that allows it to last longer, which is great, but there could be stuff that’s lost along the way.

I’d argue this is the case for Arrow, a show that started off as more of a grounded, hard-hitting tale of a man trying to save his city. As it incorporated more and more from the DC mythos, it quickly became something much campier. Well, it looks like we may be getting the old Arrow back, as actor Colton Haynes revealed to ComicBook.com.

“You guys have no idea what’s happening with Roy Harper. It’s a crazy storyline, I can say. It’s nothing like he’s been before. It’s going to shock [so many people]. I’m shocked right now. It’s going to shock a lot of people. Roy’s not the same person. I can’t say much, but we’re returning back to our roots on the show. Not the characters, but the show — We’re going back to how we were a couple of seasons ago. But it’s going to just be so good. Beth Schwartz, our new showrunner, is just — She’s a dream. She’s changing everything and she’s making everything the way I think the show was at the beginning.”

Sadly, there are no real details as to what the new showrunner is doing to bring things back to its roots, but I’m all for it. As someone who fell off the show in its second season — and someone who revisits that stellar first season every so often — I am hungry to see it return to the show I started to love.
