The latest trailer for Avengers: Endgame gave a ton of new footage for us to rummage through and do some serious speculation and guess work on. I will try and focus on the new details from this trailer as we have previously broken down and speculated endlessly on the first trailer and there are many cross-overs here. So without further ado, let’s get right into it shall we?
Cap Shaving – Drama!
Could this be the pivotal moment that Cap shaves his beard, meaning we know he means business in this movie? Ok slightly dramatic from me, but symbolically this could be important as Steve re-adopts the Captain America Persona that he essentially dropped after the events of Civil War. We don’t see any shots of a bearded Cap, so this could be quite early on in the movie.
Hawkeye Has A Tattooed Sleeve – Meaning He’s Tough Now
Clearly we already know some time has passed, or passes in this movie and we also know that Hawkeye has adopted the Ronin persona for whatever goals and that Black Widow is the one who finds him and brings him back to the group. Clearly Clint has spent some time with his local Tattooist as that sleeve is definitely something new in this movie. Does this also represent that Clint has gotten all edgy and grumpy as well? Perhaps that’s the idea.
Group Shot In Avengers HQ
We see many, but not all of our heroes in this group shot. We also can guess this is later in the movie as Scott Lang’s Ant-Man is present. What’s noticeable to me is that there is no Captain Marvel or Thor in this shot.
Speculation time – I have a theory that the Avengers go after Thanos twice in the movie( I am not alone), once where they are soundly defeated again and once where they go in with the new time travel inspired plan. What if Thanos actually kills Captain Marvel in that first encounter? That would be a huge shocker no one would see coming, and I have yet to see any shots of Carol Danvers in what we think is the second act of the movie. Food for thought, though it would not explain Thor’s absence in this shot as we know he does suit up in the Quantum Realm gear. Hmmm.
Nebula And Tony Stark Return To Earth
Both these shots show us that as everyone already knew, Tony and Nebula do return to Earth. It seems that Nebula is breaking the news to Rocket that all of his friends are gone. Meanwhile Tony has an emotional reunion with his betrothed Pepper Potts. How do they get back? Who knows?
Sad Tony Remembers Peter
Yes, nothing speculative here as we already know Peter Parker has gone the way of dust and perished. But, this does show us again how and why our heroes are focussed on saving or avenging their fallen comrades. Aw, so sad, “I don’t feel so good, Mr. Stark!”
Avengers In Spaaaaace!
OK, that heading probably will confuse the younger readers out there that don’t remember the classic Muppets skit Pigs in Space, but now you’ll look it up. The shot here shows the team members we know are present at the start of the movie as they head off on some mission in space. Something tells me that Tony and Nebula have not yet returned by this point and that this is the first avenging mission against Thanos we see the team discussing at the very start of the trailer. I have a feeling this mission doesn’t go well and could involve some deaths, more on that later.
Cap Is In Trouble And That Hand Shake With Tony
Now, is this nearer the end of the movie or nearer the start? That’s the question here and one I have a feeling the Russo’s are playing coy with. My theory all along has been that Cap may be killed by Thanos in the first act and the Cap we see later on is actually the one from 2012.
This second shot comes from a moment where Tony asks Cap if he trusts him and Cap hesitates and then says “yes”. They then shake hands and we are to assume this ends they feud begun in Civil War. However, I think the costume Cap is wearing in this shot looks a little off, as if it has been put there digitally.
What if the Russo’s are making some little changes to throw us off the scent here? They certainly did this a little with Infinity War if you remember Hulk charging into the battle in Wakanda. Again my theory is that Cap perishes and this is actually 2012 Cap that Tony is recruiting for the cause. The background looks like the battle of New York and all it would take is a CGI suit over the OG costume of Steve Rogers to send us off on the wrong path. Tinfoil hat time, but hey, that’s part of the fun right?
The Battle Of Xandar?
The following shots I am guessing are all set on Xandar and not at the Avengers HQ as many have speculated already. Above it looks like Thanos’ ship is above Xandar, a place we know he attacked first, off-screen in Infinity War. If the Avengers are indeed trying to stop Thanos getting the stones throughout time, then this could be them trying to stop Thanos getting the Power Stone during the destruction of Xandar.
We also see Thanos sort of beaming down to the planet, which to me means this is prior to him having the Tesseract, as once he has it he tends to use that for transporting himself around.
Finally, we see a shot of the feet of Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor as they approach Thanos kneeling down with a massive sword next to him. I’ll guess he is looking at the body of one of his ‘children’ that the heroes have already defeated. Whilst this could be out of sequence and instead be the finale, I have a feeling this could also be on the devastated Xandar and happen after the previous 2 shots in sequence.
Here’s A Cool Shot Of Iron Man
Nothing to say about the image above, I just really like it (other than it looks like New York in the background). And can we appreciate the “muscle” look they have here?
I still think there’s a strong possibility that the Russo’s are messing with us a little in these trailers and despite all this new footage we are still just speculating wildly. That’s some damn clever marketing and the hype is real for Avengers: Endgame. Marvel will be pleased with how things are going so far and yet, how little of this movie they are actually showing us.
