Avengers: Infinity War Directors Consider Using The Defenders

Marvel successfully built an entire universe where multiple heroes coexist in a myriad of films. All those characters collided on the big screen April 27, 2018 when Avengers: Infinity War rocked theaters around the world, and ended up collecting an impressive two-billion dollar box office haul. Well played Marvel. Well played. But how much would that film have made if it featured a certain band of Defenders? We may never know, but adding Marvel TV characters to Avengers: Infinity War was mulled over.

This news comes courtesy of /Film, who was in attendance at a recent Q&A session with directors Anthony and Joe Russo. During the panel, it was revealed that they had at least talked about the possibility of incorporating those guys. Here’s what the tweet from panel said.

“They talked about involving the Netflix Marvel characters in Infinity War, but they say it was too complicated to correlate story between not only the other Marvel films in production but also the tv productions. They decided the best way to tell the story was to keep it MCU.”

The geek in me can’t help but get excited to hear this almost happened in my lifetime. I mean, less than one hundred years ago people went to the movies to see silent films. Now, in our lifetime, we get comic book stories being told and they are big, bold, and bright. Not only that, but the stories Marvel’s been telling are worth watching.

I’m stoked we were that close to seeing some Defenders and Avengers action. Damn, it would’ve been nice to see some of my favorite heroes from the big and small screen kicking some Thanos tail. The thought there was a sliver of hope to see Jon Bernthal’s Punisher serving justice in the same movie as Rocket Raccoon is amazing. Was this the right play from Marvel? Do you think Marvel TV heroes could have been a good addition? Leave your feedback in the comments below.
