Avengers: Infinity War – Early Ebony Maw Concept Art Shows A More Futuristic Look

From the first word of Ebony Maw’s introduction speech, Avengers: Infinity War had me hooked. Acting as a medieval herald for the Purple Titan, Maw spoke with a sort of disturbing happiness that created a juxtaposition of emotions as he walked among the injured and the dead.

While we all know Tony Stark’s famous “Squidward” burn, I would argue that Maw more closely resembles an elderly Voldemort. Factoring in the concept art that was recently released by artist and creature designer Jerad Marantz, Maw could have looked very different in the film.

While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with Marantz’s design, it looks futuristic, where are the design that made it into the film is likely what brought together the whole medieval vibe of the character. Maw looked and sounded like an elderly peasant from the middle ages, one who was educated and well versed in sorcery.

Sure, had they went with Marantz’s design, they could have opted for a completely different personality for the character. Admittedly, it’s hard to judge the appearances in a fair manner, as we are used to the Maw we saw in the film,  a film and a Maw many of us very much love.
