Ben Affleck Releases Statement Upon Exiting Rehab

Not too long ago, film director and actor Ben Affleck very publicly entered into rehab following a relapse of his alcoholism. This came on the heels of some personal issues the star had been coping with for some time, and for many fans, an uncertainty of what his involvement would be in the DC Extended Universe going forward.

Now, just over a month later, he has released a public statement upon exiting rehab. here’s what the actor had to say:

“This week I completed a forty day stay at a treatment center for alcohol addition and remain in outpatient care.”

“The support I have received from my family, colleagues and fans means more to me than I can say. It’s given me the strength and support to speak about my illness with others.”

The actor went on to share the realities and difficulties of having an addition of any kind:

“Battling any addition is a lifelong and difficult struggle. Because of that, one is never really in or out of treatment. It is a full-time commitment. I am fighting for myself and my family. So many people have reached out on social media and spoken about their own journeys with addition. To those people, I want to say thank you. Your strength is inspiring and is supporting me in ways I didn’t think was possible. It helps to know I am not alone. As I’ve reminded myself, if you have a problem, getting help is a sign of courage, not weakness or failure.”

“With acceptance and humility, I continue to avail myself with the help of so many people and I am grateful to all those who are there for me. I hope down the road I can offer an example to those who are struggling.”

Not to repeat what Affleck just said, but indeed addiction is something that is very difficult to overcome, and if you’re able to reach out to someone and help, it really does take the load off and help achieve longterm success.

We’ve heard rumors that, upon leaving rehab, that Affleck was interested in playing Batman, but at this point, we wish Affleck all the best and hope he’ll take the right steps that are best for his health, whatever they may be.
