Last January it was revealed by actor Benicio del Toro would not be reprising his role as the Collector in the upcoming GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2. Speaking with Coming Soon at the time, he stated:

“I don’t think so. They would have told me, I hope… I do hope to play that character again at some point.”

So while del Toro would not be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the immediate future, he would likely come back in the future when his character would be more relevant. You can imagine the confusion then, when del Toro was recently spotted around Los Angeles with a wig on.

Here are a couple photos the Daily Mail snapped and posted last Friday:

I don’t know about you, but I think that wig looks oddly Collector-ish. So what’s the deal?

Daily Mail incorrectly states that he’s walking round the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 set — the only problem with that is that GUARDIANS 2 wrapped back in June. Okay, well perhaps he’s on the set of some other Marvel flick? Indeed it’s very possible that he’ll be showing up in THOR: RAGNAROK (which isn’t even shooting in America) or in the post-credits scene for DOCTOR STRANGE (which wrapped production last year), but the folks over at Comic Book Movie have another theory.

During San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that a GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY attraction would be heading to Disneyland in Anaheim, California. As such, it’s most probable that del Toro was in makeup for that attraction.

Sorry, Collector fans, but we may not see him in the MCU proper for some time.

What do you think? Do you buy that he’s in costume for the attraction, or do you think he’s shooting an extra sequence for one of the upcoming films? Let us know in the comments down below!
