Bethesda Announce New Game Fallout 76

Bethesda has announced they have a new video game coming. Fallout 76 has now been officially teased in the video above.

The Fallout franchise is one of the most enduring in video games. Developer Bethesda has already released Fallout 4 in this console generation. The previous generations had two Fallout games, both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas were critically acclaimed and loved by fans. However, Fallout 4 was met with a bit less fanfare from the video game community. The general criticisms I have heard revolve around a weaker story, with less depth than fans were used to in previous games.

The Fallout games have always been single player action RPG’s. If anything Fallout 4 was seen as a bit too much action and not quite enough RPG. So fans would be forgiven for thinking that Fallout 76 will also be a single player action RPG, however, they’d be wrong.

Although details on Fallout 76 are still scarce, from what we can gather, it seems this game will fall into a different genre altogether. The rumor mill has Fallout 76 pegged as an online action RPG. That might not seem like much of a difference to the uninitiated, but in reality, it’s a different kind of game altogether. An online RPG means you will share your gaming world and your adventures with millions of other Fallout 76 players. The best comparison for what we can expect would be The Elder Scrolls Online or ESO for short. ESO, whilst published by Bethesda, was actually developed by ZeniMax Online Studios.

Therefore, if I was to gauge the early reaction of the gaming community, it would be one of slight disappointment that this new game will not be a new single-player focused Fallout game. Now things may change as more details are revealed, and this could still result in something brilliant. The problem is that always online games come with their own unique sets of problems, and let’s just say that Bethesda is not known for making bug free masterpieces.

Either way, this is still big news, so expect to hear much more about Fallout 76 and when we are likely to see it hit shelves in the weeks to come.

Any Fallout fans out there? We’d love to hear what you think of this news and the change to being an EOS like an online game. Let us know in the comments below.
