Bird Box Spin-Off? This One Actor Wants To Make It Happen

While Netflix has a pretty solid track record with their series taking root in pop culture, their feature films haven’t been nearly as impactful for audiences. Even some of their really big movies like Bright have a tendency to explode and then fade quickly. I mean, is anyone even talking about Bright at all these days, even with a sequel on the way. I suppose it’s an inevitability when you’re releasing dozens of films a year — more than any major studios does in theaters. But one film in recent memory has stood out quite a bit: Bird Box.

Sure, Bird Box could have stood out for a million reasons. Perhaps it’s the nature of having a tense thriller, or maybe the fact that they never show the monster that sparks all kinds of conversation. It could be its overall premise, which has gone on to spawn way too many idiots to do dangerous stuff with blindfolds on. But regardless of the why, the fact is the film has really taken on a life of its own in the pop culture zeitgeist.

But will Netflix capitalize on this? One can wonder what possible story there is left to tell. Sure, the danger being faced is not over by any stretch of the imagination, but with Sandra Bullock’s character now in a community of survivors, would it really be best to repeat the dangers that went on in that house? Well, there’s at least one actor who wants to do another Bird Box film, and that’s Rosa Salazar. Speaking with the Los Angeles Times, she expressed her overall desire to go back to this world:

“We’re always scheming on how we’re going to do it. We have this dream of doing a sequel where we survived, and leaving was the best thing you could possibly do.”

If you didn’t catch the film (and are, for some reason reading this article), Salazar’s character and her boyfriend ended up abandoning the house of survivors right after their grocery run, leaving the rest of the house to die horrific deaths (or at least most of them). Personally, I always liked the thought that they died immediately after, but I suppose a spin-off would ruin that idea.
