Black Panther continues to impress and baffle. Just a week ago, the film was slated to have a $165 million four-day domestic debut, but it looks like such a destiny was far too small for the superhero flick. After exceeding all expectations in its three-day weekend, taking in just short of $202M, the film has once again surpassed projections for its adjusted four-day opener.
According to Variety, Black Panther has beaten out Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘s own four-day opener, and made $242M domestically. That’s right. Not even the Force stood a chance against this juggernaut of a film. What’s even more surprising here is that Black Panther is just a standalone film, and not a Marvel Studios team-up, which are pretty much guaranteed to make all sorts of bank.

This four-day high puts it in second place behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which made $288.1M in its four days. What’s also worth noting is that Black Panther actually EXCEEDED The Force Awakens‘ own Monday numbers, taking in $40.2M over The Force Awakens‘ $40.1M.
Worldwide, the film has made $426.6M, already pretty much guarantee its profitability in its first four days of opening.
Finally, Black Panther also demolished the Presidents Day weekend record set by 2016’s Deadpool, which hit a crazy number of $152M upon its own release.
The next big question here is just how high Black Panther will rise. Could it beat Star Wars: The Last Jedi in its worldwide run? That seems like a possibility.
