Black Panther – Forest Whitaker Also Compares Film To James Bond And Explains Its Uniqueness

Black Panther looks entirely unique, without seeming so out-there that it will shatter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both trailers and been grand and bold, and the film bested 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, becoming the fastest-selling Marvel Studios film in the first 24 hours of online ticket sales.

Variety talked with Forest Whitaker, who not only compared parts of the film to James Bond, just as his director did last week, but also stated he thought the uniqueness of the film is driving ticket sales:

“It’s a unique piece. It’s a multicultural piece. I think people are waiting to find something new.”

He continued:

“This superhero from Africa who is in this society and trying to fix the world is something that hasn’t been seen before. I think Ryan [Coogler] is a great director so there’s always going to be some social conscious inside of it. … And at the same time, the action is something we haven’t seen before.”

Whitaker also confirmed that scene from the trailer is indeed in outer space for some reason (I knew it!), while explaining why the film is more than just a look at an African Nation:

“We’re going to see not only tribal things, but things that take us into outer space, things that take us into the James Bond space. It’s a really unique amalgamation of different things that come together in an exciting way.”

Outer space? James Bond? In Black Panther (well… 007 actually isn’t in Black Panther… I assume, but you know what I mean)? Color me intrigued. If I didn’t work at a movie theater, I’d have my tickets already!
