Black Panther On Course To Have $100M-Plus Second Weekend

Last weekend, Black Panther lit the box office on fire with a near-unprecedented opening weekend of $202M. With these numbers in mind, it makes sense that its second weekend would also be a solid affair.

According to Box Office Mojo, Black Panther may very well be the fourth film in history to have a $100 million second weekend. As it stands, the film seems to be on pace with something like Jurassic World, which dropped 49 percent in its second weekend. Should Black Panther follow suit, it will have just north of $100 million, which is a huge accomplishment for a standalone Marvel Studios film — and a first in a franchise, no less.

Given all the buzz surrounding the movie, it seems like a word of mouth is guaranteed to be stellar. Add into that the A+ CiemaScore, and you have the recipe for another strong weekend at the box office. Hell, given how much Black Panther has managed to outpace expectations on every front, I wouldn’t be shocked if it managed $110-$120M second weekend.

Its only real competition come in the form of Annihilation and Game Night, and while both will likely find their respective audiences in some capacity, no way are either any real threat to the throne on which Black Panther currently sits.
