Blade Runner 2049 Trailer: The Key To The Future Is Finally Unearthed

At some point, pretty much every property under the sun will be remade, rebooted, or sequelized. That is the harsh reality we live in. However, while that may be the case, who’s to say there can’t be some great art made along the way? That’s what we’re hoping for with the upcoming Blade Runner 2049. Film fans will recognize the title immediately, as the original has since stood the test of time, and a full-on sequel to the film has been rumored for decades. Luckily for us, the man to sign on to direct was none other than Arrival helmer Denis Villeneuve, a more than worthy replacement for Ridley Scott.

Months back, Warner Bros released an announcement trailer. While it gave us a first real look into how this world has changed in the past 30 years, there was little else beyond gorgeous set design. has finally released the official trailer for Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to the iconic Ridley Scott-directed original.

As expected, the visuals for this film look utterly astounding. However, as expected with a trailer this early on, there is very little to cling onto in terms of character or story. More than anything, this was put together to give us a better idea of the world we’ll be getting into. As someone who was a huge fan of the original, this is a promising first look. Were it not for Villeneuve’s strong track record, however, I might be a bit more worried by the complete lack of storytelling here. Will this be the one to sell to mainstream audiences? I don’t think so. That’ll be something for the next trailer to do. But with this one, Blade Runner and sci-fi fans would be hard-pressed not to get excited.

The official synopsis for Blade Runner 2049 is below:

“Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.”
