Blade: Wesley Snipes Says He And Marvel Have Been Discussing A New Film For Two Years

We may live in the golden age of superhero films, but that’s not to say that superhero films were nonexistent back in the late-90s — most people just didn’t realize they were superhero films because they came disguised as other genres. One such film franchise that fit that bill perfectly was Blade, which went on to spawn two more sequels and a short-lived TV series.

The first couple films were received very well by fans, and whenever people say that superhero films weren’t good in that era — or that there’s never been a lead black superhero, many fans often point to Blade. But will Blade ever come back, and will Wesley Snipes ever reprise his role as the beloved character? Speaking with Vice, Snipes confirmed that such talks have taken place:

“There are a lot of conversations going around right now and we’re very blessed to have the enthusiasm and interest in something coming from that world again. We’ve created two projects that fit perfectly into this world and, when people see them, I think they’re only going to have a problem with deciding which one they love the most.”

But this isn’t anything that’s materialized out of thin air. From the sound of it, it’s been in the works for a solid couple years — which, in internet years is about a century:

“All the main execs [at Marvel] and my team, we’ve been discussing for the past two years. Everyone’s enthusiastic about it, everybody gets it. But they got a business to run and they gotta square the things that they gotta figure out before they can get to it, I guess. In the meantime, we got a business to run and our own slate of things to do so…”

“But the next time you see something in [the Blade universe], mark my words: what we did before is child’s play compared to what we can do now.”

But, of course, the big question is whether or not the guy could co-exist in the MCU. Forget that. Either send him to Netflix or throw the film under the Fox banner. R-rated comic book movies do great there!
