Bond 25: Producers Starting From Square One After Boyle’s Departure

I don’t think you need to be any film expert to know that the next Bond film is in a less than ideal position right now. After being on board to helm the 25th entry in the franchise, director Danny Boyle stepped down due to a reported clash with star Daniel Craig over the casting of the villain. So where exactly does that leave the film going forward?

Prior to Boyle’s involvement, we already knew they had a draft from franchise vets Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, and that Boyle threw that script out in favor of his own idea with John Hodge. With Boyle gone, I speculated that may go back to the Purvis-Wade script so that they’d actually hit their November 2019 released date.

Turns out that bit of speculation was all kinds of wrong — at least based on a new report from Variety. According to them, the producers are going back to the drawing board for Bond 25, and word has it they are looking either for a new writer for the film or a writer-director to take over things. The fact that they aren’t looking for someone to just helm a script that’s already been written pretty much shows that they’re ready to start over.

This is interesting since it proves that the producers won’t want to return to that Purvis-Wade draft, and in my eyes, confirms they are ready to go in a whole new direction for Craig’s last outing as Bond. Filming was supposed to begin this December, but with no script or director, it seems unlikely they’ll hit their release date next year.
