The 25th entry in the long-running James Bond film franchise may have had a rough start with its loss of Danny Boyle as director, but with True Detective‘s Cary Fukunaga firmly planted in the director’s chair at this point, things seem to be moving forward at a nice pace. The cast seems to be rounding out, with a newly-anointed Oscar-winner supposedly poised to take on the film’s villainous role.

According to a report from Collider, Bohemian Rhapsody‘s Rami Malek is in final negotiations to play opposite of Daniel Craig as the villain of the piece. Of course, Malek is a busy man, and while he still has the last season of Mr. Robot to shoot, Malek’s team and WME worked hard to ensure that he could pull off both the TV show and the new Bond film, so that’s pretty cool news to hear.

Rumor has it that the character in question is blind, but there are no firm details yet. In the past, actor Said Taghmaoui stated they would either go with a Middle Eastern actor or Russian actor. Then again, that was way back when Danny Boyle was at the helm, and it’s unclear whether or not he took the script with him when he left the project. So we may be talking about a different villain altogether — one that comes from the previous iteration of the script.

Either way, Malek is a great talent, and I’m sure he can pull off a unique villain for the franchise. With this being Daniel Craig’s last go as Bond, let’s hope he’s a worthy foe.
