Brave New World Series Headed To USA Network

Get ready to head into another dystopian world. A world where people aren’t necessarily oppressed by an overbearing government, but rather by their own whims and their constant desires of instant gratification. No, I’m not talking about the world we live in (not just yet), but the world presented to us in the novel Brave New World by author Aldous Huxley.

Variety is reporting that this classic piece of literature is being adapted for the small screen, with USA Network giving a straight-to-series order. Interestingly enough, Brave New World was actually commissioned by Syfy way back in 2015 before it eventually made the hop. I suppose it goes to show that nothing is a guarantee.

David Wiener (Homecoming) has hopped on board to showrun and executive produce, with the writers of the project being Grant Morrison and Brian Taylor. Also executive producing is Morrison along with Darryl rank and Justin Falvey of Amblin Television. Set to helm the first episode of the project is Black Mirror “San Junipero” director Owen Harris.

If you somehow weren’t forced to read this novel in high school, here is how the outlet describes the story:

Brave New World imagines a utopian society that has achieved peace and stability through the prohibition of monogamy, privacy, money, family, and history itself. As citizens of New London, Bernard Marx and Lenina Crowne have only ever known a rigid social order, a perfect pharmaceutical called Soma, and a culture of instant gratification and ubiquitous sex. Curious to explore life beyond the strictures of their society, the two New Worlders embark on a vacation to the Savage Lands, where they become embroiled in a harrowing and violent rebellion. Bernard and Lenina are rescued by John the Savage, who escapes with them back to New London. John’s arrival in the New World soon threatens to disrupt its utopian harmony, leaving Bernard and Lenina to grapple with the repercussions. The three become entwined in a fraught relationship that awakens them to the dangers of their own conditioning.
