The latest film from director Quentin Tarantino, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, appears to be another fine entry into his portfolio, coming in at a solid 84% on the aggregate site, RottenTomatoes. This comes as no surprise as if anyone has consistent content delivery, it’s Tarantino.
The film is set in the late 60s and as such features a number of fictionalized versions of real people. One of those people is the great Bruce Lee. However the version of Lee shown in the film hasn’t set right with member of Lee’s family, who do not approve of his portrayal. Bruce Lee’s daughter Shannon, recently spoke with TheWrap and expressed her displeasure with her father’s portayal in the film, you can check out what she had to say below.
“He comes across as an arrogant asshole who was full of hot air, and not someone who had to fight triple as hard as any of those people did to accomplish what was naturally given to so many others.”

Shannon Lee continued saying she understands the depiction of her father is fictionalized, but is still unhappy with it.
“I can understand all the reasoning behind what is portrayed in the movie. I understand that the two characters are antiheroes and this is sort of like a rage fantasy of what would happen… and they’re portraying a period of time that clearly had a lot of racism and exclusion. I understand they want to make the Brad Pitt character this super bad-ass who could beat up Bruce Lee. But they didn’t need to treat him in the way that white Hollywood did when he was alive.”
I am yet to see the film, so I can’t really comment beyond what I’ve seen the in trailers. I can understand Sharon Lee being unhappy with how her father was shown, however, the main point is this is a highly fictionalized version.
