Bryce Dallas Howard Was Blown Away By The Tech Used To Film The Mandalorian

The high anticipated series The Mandalorian is expected to debut on Disney’s very own streaming service, Disney+, this August. The show will the be first live-action Star Wars series, and is very much shaping up to be a space western.

Bryce Dallas Howard (daughter of famed director Ron Howard) directed one of the episodes of the upcoming series. In speaking with Collider, Howard spoke about technology used on set and compared it to a piece of technology from a rival science-fiction franchise. You can check out what she had to say below.

“Jon Favreau is known for pushing emerging technology forward. What he did with The Jungle Book, what he’s doing now with The Lion King, it’s really extraordinary what is possible because of these projects. There were so many times when I would be like, ‘Oh, it’s okay, Jon. We can just do it that way.’ And he’s like, ‘I just want to see if it’s possible.’ And then it’s tested, and way more times you find out, ‘Oh, wow, it is possible, and it’s better’. There was specifically something that we shot in what we called ‘The Volume’. And basically you step into it and you can’t tell that you are surrounded by LED screens and you feel like you’re wherever the story is taking place. It’s almost like – this is the wrong term to use, especially for this project – but it’s almost like a Holodeck.”

An interesting choice of words for sure, espically with the eternal war between Trekkies and whatever the word equivalent word for Star Wars fans is. However, it does paint quite the picture, and gives fans an idea of where technology is heading. There is a similar bit of technology in Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville (as if the show doesn’t draw enough Star Trek comparisons).

The Mandalorian looks great, a good deal of my confidence comes from Favreau being the person bring us the show, as well as being a big fan of Pedro Pascal.
