Captain Marvel: Brie Larson Didn’t Know Which Avengers Were In The Post-Credits Scene

Tales of Marvel Studios’ extreme secrecy are legendary. On Avengers: Infinity War, most cast members didn’t even know what the hell was going on — as constantly pointed out by Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, who apparently didn’t understand the context of his own death scene in the film. This kind of secrecy actually extended to Captain Marvel as well. At least the post-credits scene of the movie.

For those who haven’t seen it, the scene in question shows the Avengers at their HQ looking at the pager that Nick Fury set off in the post-credits scene of Infinity War. They turn around to see Carol Danvers ask “Where’s Fury?” before it cuts to black. It plays immediately into the next film, which is something we’re all waiting for, but according to Larson, she had no idea who she was even talking to.

“So I didn’t know…there’s a tag in Captain Marvel where it like whip pans to me and all the Avengers and I’m like ‘where’s Fury?’ I didn’t know that was a tag for Captain Marvel,” Larson said to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. “I didn’t know what that was that we were shooting. There was also nobody else there. I was by myself on a green screen and I walked in and they were like ‘just real quick we’re going to whip pan over to you and you’re gonna go where’s Fury’ and I was like ‘cool cool, got it got it got it.’ They whip-panned over to me and I was like ‘wait, where…where is he actually, like…is he in the room…like what room am I in? Was he in the other room? Or was it like another universe?'”

The producers went on to tell Larson that Fury was “very gone,” and she put it together he was likely dead, though his actual circumstances likely remained a huge mystery until she finally had a chance to see Avengers: Infinity War.
