CAPTAIN MARVEL: Sunday And Weekend Box Office Numbers Are In

We all knew this weekend would be filled with Captain Marvel news. With the Rotten Tomatoes controversy and the fact that it is a Marvel Cinematic Universe film, it should come as no surprise there is a lot to write about. One of the things people have been wondering about is the Box Office returns for the controversial movie. On a side note, why is the movie itself controversial? shouldn’t it be Brie Larson that is the controversy? Anyways…

Box Office Mojo is reporting that Captain Marvel has a three-day domestic take in of $153 million and a worldwide haul of $455 million. This makes it the 7th highest opening for a Marvel Cinematic Universe film behind the likes of Iron Man 3Captain America: Civil WarBlack Panther, and all three  Avengers films.

Given that the film is said to have cost around $150 million to produce, the movie is already a financial success.

There is no denying that comments made by Brie Larson, who plays Captain Marvel herself, have created a storm around the movie. Between review bombing, calls to go see Alita: Battle Angel, and even people stating they’ll wait for “the real Captain Marvel” and see Shazam instead I was really interested to see what this weekend’s returns would be. Disney and Marvel are no doubt excited by these numbers, but the legs of the movie will be determined by the second-weekend drop-off. I stated that I thought this movie would make less than $800 million back in December. I had reasons that you can read HERE, but it looks like I may have been wrong.

Have you seen Captain Marvel? Did you like it? How much money do you think it’ll make? Let us know in the comments below?
