CBS All Access Acquires Nickelodeon Content

As the battle of the streaming networks intensifies moves are starting to be made from the services looking to reign supreme!  The big dogs such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime have already staked their claims, but the release of Disney+ has brought some definite competition.  With NBC Universal making its way in April of 2020 bringing with them the likes of The Office and Friends, other services are looking for ways to stay competitive.

CBS All Access has made the move to add children’s programming to their services by acquiring Nickelodeon content. Viacom is in the process of providing some of its content to CBS with shows such as Danger Mouse and Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs already premiering.

The Hollywood Reporter covered comments from CBS All Access’ Marc DeBevoise regarding the focus on material geared towards children.

“Bringing children’s programming to CBS All Access is a significant step toward providing even more value for our subscribers, and now for their children as well. We’re bringing to market a fantastic roster of exclusive originals along with a library of marquee series for families, and we look forward to continuing to expand our children’s programming offering, especially with the future addition of incredible programming from Nickelodeon.”

Now one would assume that shows such as SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer could make their way to CBS All Access since they do not currently have a streaming home, but that is not set in stone as Viacom has distributed some of its content to rival services as well.

Nickelodeon President, Bryan Robbins, suggested that the future of the network’s relationship with CBS All Access should become solidified in the future. In the meantime, the streaming service will be adding the libraries of Bob the Builder, Inspector Gadget, Madeline, Heathcliff and The Adventures of Paddington Bear to bolster their child-friendly options.
