Check Out The Jurassic World Short ‘Battle At Big Rock’ Here!

Last night was the release of an all-new Jurassic World short film titled Battle at Big Rock, by the director of Jurassic World and the upcoming third installment of the franchise, Colin Trevorrow. The eight minute film is set one year after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. It follows a family that is enjoying a camping trip at Big Rock National Park. They now live in a world where humans and dinosaurs have been forced to co-exist. During their dinner they encounter a confrontation between two dinosaurs a Nasutoceratops and an Allosaurus, which ends up being a terrifying experience. You can check out the short above!

The film stars Andre Holland, Natalie Martinez, Melody Hurd and Pierson Salvador. The script was written by Trevorrow along with Emily Carmichael. During an interview with Collider a few days ago, Trevorrow talked about the reason for putting together this short film before Jurassic World 3. “The world is bigger than just the characters we’ve been following in the films. We’ve finally taken the story off Isla Nublar, we wanted to show a glimpse of that new reality. If this really happened, you’d see a series of random disconnected incidents that would create a pattern of chaos. I wanted to see one of those incidents”, said Trevorrow.

This glimpse as he calls it was exactly what Jurassic Park/World fans needed to see after the last film. Dinosaurs and humans are now sharing the same space and this of course has consequences and we get to see that in Battle at Big Rock. Even the beginning world that we see with the Universal emblem is now a symbol of the Jurassic World that we find the family in. What was once a bear walking into your camp has now turned into a dinosaur. You can also hear in the beginning during a newscast that dinosaurs are also now reproducing, life has certainly found a way.

If the encounter wasn’t enough, during the end credits we see short scenes of other instances where we find dinosaurs disrupting everyday life. This includes an awesome sight of a seal being eaten by a lunging shark, who ends up in the mouth of an even bigger predator, a mosasaurus. It’s amazing that the whole thing was shot in five days in Ireland and that it even included an animatronic dinosaur. Even more impressive was the fact that they were able to keep it on the down low for so long, something that even Trevorrow was surprised by.
