I am not going to lie to you, I am not the rom-com type of guy. Sure, there’s a few out there that are entertaining enough, but I think Deadpool is the best of them. That and Zack and Miri Make A Porno. The latter stars Seth Rogen who also stars in the upcoming film Long Shot. In this movie Charlize Theron play the U.S. Secretary of State who is planning a presidential run. She runs into Rogen’s character at a party and realizes she used to babysit him. He is currently a reporter and she decides to hire him as a speech writer for her. This means he has to spend time with her to get to know her on a more personal level and be able to write from her point of view. Of course they get put into awkward situations with awkward conversations and even seem to survive some sort of violent act. This all leads to romance because… well it’s in the script.
Theron is a good actress, although she’s had some terrible parts, and Rogen is good at playing the same character again and again and again. The obvious political allusions should play well with some in the audience too. Combine this all together and I can see the movie doing fairly well. Couples can go see it with one hoping for kissy, kissy-goo,goo stuff while the other hopes for Rogen’s stoner humor.
The movie is directed by Jonathan Levine from a screenplay by Dan Sterling. It hits theaters May 3rd.
