Ocean’s 8 will be a reboot of George Clooney’s Ocean’s 11 franchise, and while everyone involved has kept a tight lip about the plot we do know that it will feature an all female cast and pictured above are the eight women rumored to be the actual “Ocean’s 8”. Now, I know where almost everyone’s mind is heading right now — way back to 2016 when an all female cast massacred Ghostbusters, tore the franchise to shreds, and stomped in the face of “Bill effing Murray” who was actually kind enough to lend his celebrity status to the movie. I do not think this will be the case in Ocean’s 8 and the main reason is the caliber of most of the actresses involved. Let’s take a look at the eight in the picture and a few more ladies involved as well.

The Eight

Sandra Bullock

I am guessing she will take Danny Ocean’s (George Clooney) role in the film and my gamble is that she is his sister making her an Ocean as well. Bullock is perhaps the top female actress in the industry and has won an Oscar for best leading actress in The Blind Side and was nominated for the same award in Gravity. She will be a vastly improved lead over Ghostbusters‘ Kristen Wiig.

Cate Blanchett

If you thought Bullock was big time, just take a look at Blanchett’s resume having won an Oscar for best supporting actress in The Aviator and best leading actress in Blue Jasmine, not to mention her 4 other nominations. She has both a classy and unique look and one would assume that she will be playing Brad Pitt’s role in this film.

Anne Hathaway

With this actress I will admit I am very biased as I simply love everything about her. She is beautiful, smart, an expert with dialogue, and to keep the trend going she has also won an Oscar for best supporting actress in Les Misérables and has been nominated for best leading actress in Rachel Getting Married. I expect she will bring quite a bit to the film on a number of yummy levels.

Helena Bonham Carter

Why not mention her awards as well? She has 2 Oscar nominations and a total of 42 wins and 83 nominations in the other awards that are less prestigious than the Academy Awards. However, I know her best from Fight Club and from the Harry Potter movies where she played two very captivating characters that put a big stamp of her talent on the films.

Sarah Paulson

Paulson has been in a number of films and TV series but most recently she brilliantly portrayed Marcia Clark in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, and she won both a Golden Globe and an Emmy for this role. Like many, she got her start on Law & Order and has risen through the ranks over 23 years to become a well respected actress.

So if you read Joseph Medina’s Top 5 piece on underrated movie (CLICK HERE) you will know a guilty pleasure of mine is the movie Battleship. Rihanna was in this and she played the role well which along with her star power has led to a few other roles including a character on Bates Motel (if you have not seen this show I highly recommend it), and now she will appear in this probable blockbuster. My fingers are crossed for this seemingly sweet girl.

Mindy Kaling

Kaling played Kelly Kapoor on The Office and Mindy in The Mindy Project. She is bubbly, cute, and funny and will likely be the comedic relief in this movie. I like her work and her subtle, often dark, humor will go hand-in-hand with the rest of the cast.

Awkwa-WHO? Isn’t that a bottled water? I have no clue who this is but IMDB tells me she has played herself in several roles so I guess she is somebody… maybe. Well, 7 outta 8 is not bad.

The Other Women

As I have previously said there is very little information about the plot, and for all we know this promo picture may not even feature the actual “eight” as there are several other huge celebrities attached to this: Olivia Munn played Psylocke in the most recent X-Men film, and I always get her confused with Olivia Wilde. Dakota Fanning was a child star and has had a few roles in her time that made a minor impact. We have Dawson’s Creek and Batman Begins’ Katie Holmes that is best known for fleeing from Tom Cruise. And then there is the woman that I simply said “NOPE” and almost called it a day for; Kim Kardashian West will be making an appearance but I don’t think she will do more than a cameo as both Kylie & Kendall Jenner have been listed as well.

That is quite a list of star power, and if you think about it when Ocean’s Eleven was released the most notable Oscar win, I believe, was Matt Damon’s co-written win alongside of Ben Affleck for Good Will Hunting. Neither Pitt or Clooney had won their production Oscars yet, and while they were superstars and Hollywood darlings — the cast of Ocean’s 8 is far more prestigious.

Ocean’s 8 is set to be released on June 8th of this year. Could this be a summer blockbuster that will dominate for weeks or will any number of comic movies quickly knock it out of the picture? Is this cast better than Ocean’s 11? Do you have high hopes that this could be a good movie or will it thought of in the same ilk as another Ghostbusters reboot? I must know!
