Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) seems to be getting off on the right foot. We already know great talents such as Margot Robbie and Mary Elizabeth Winstead will be fronting the film. Additionally, they have one solid actor in Ewan McGregor playing the big bad in the film, Black Mask. But, of course, like many comic book movies out there, it won’t do to just have one bad guy in a movie.

Deadline reports that the character Victor Zsasz, a serial killer who carves tallies of his victims on his body, will be joining the fray. The character will reportedly be working with Black Mask in some undisclosed scheme. The man taking on the role will be none other than Chris Messina, who some folks may recognize for his work on The Mindy Project, The Newsroom, and most recently, Sharp Objects.

Victor Zsasz is a pretty horrific murderer who is known for slitting his victims’ throat and placing them in lifelike poses.

Considering I’ve only seen Messina play good characters on the small screen (or at least partially good, in the case of his work on The Newsroom), I’m interested to see what he’ll bring to the table in this film. Given the proper makeup, I can certainly buy him as the crazed serial killer, though with this film supposedly being a more goofy movie, I can’t help but wonder how this will be played.
