It seems every time Jared Leto does something lately, people tie it into his portrayal of The Joker in David Ayer’s upcoming Suicide Squad. Fans are dying to see what he does with the role, so everything from haircuts, shavings, creepy interactions at concerts, to the actor’s Snapchats send people into a “He’s giving us a peek!” frenzy. Now comes the latest on that front, and it’s only a tiny glimpse, but it’s something.

The actor was spotted showing someone a photo on his phone, and that photo very clearly depicts himself in full Joker makeup. This could be just one from a batch of tests, or it could be his final look. Either way, you can now get some idea of what he’ll look like when he plays the Clown Prince of Crime in the DC Comics super-villain team film.

For some reason, throughout this transformation process the actor’s been undergoing for the last few weeks, I keep picturing that his Joker look is going to be a “less is more” thing. So far, the two cinematic Jokers have been rather grandiose in terms of their appearance.

There’s Jack, with the crazy prosthetic smile built onto his face:

There’s Heath, with the jagged scars and calculatedly disheveled makeup:

With Leto, I keep getting the feeling the look is going to be far more straightforward and streamlined. I picture something more like the one we recently saw in the animated film, The Dark Knight Returns:

Judging on the photo Leto is showing off, I may not be far off. We’ll see how it all plays out. Suicide Squad is currently filming in Toronto, gearing up for an August 5, 2016 release.
