Comics Legend Brian Michael Bendis Penning Kitty Pryde Film

Last month, we reported on the story that 20th Century Fox was exploiting yet another character in the X-Men universe for a standalone film: Kitty Pryde. In a fitting move, Deadpool director Tim Miller was said to be developing the standalone film in hopes of directing, and now it looks like they’ve taken another big step forward.

According to THR, legendary comic book writer (creator of the Jessica Jones character) Brian Michael Bendis is set to write the script for the film.

The film is under the codename 143, which sources tell them will focus on the character Kitty Pryde. The number 143 is a reference to Uncanny X-Men #143, which was her first solo adventure in the comics. This all seems to confirm the Collider report from last month, and shows that they’re moving along pretty quickly.

Director Tim Miller first made a splash back in 2016 with the release of the Deadpool film. While he parted ways with the Deadpool 2 production, he’s managed to keep himself pretty busy on multiple fronts with projects like this and a little property called Terminator. Brian Michael Bendis, as stated above, is well known for his extensive Marvel work, so this is right up his alley. However, very recently, he turned cloak and went over to write for DC.
