Black Panther is currently up for what seems to be every award going at every award show right now, so was there really ever any doubt that Marvel would be fast-tracking a sequel to one of their biggest ever hits?
Whilst we know we are definitely getting a Black Panther 2, at this point, we have no idea what kind of form the story could take. One of the biggest draws of Black Panther was the performance of Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger, the cousin of T’Challa. But Killmonger was killed at the end of the movie, so it would have been fair to assume he would be nowhere near the sequel.

However, interestingly as fans always point out, we never saw Killmonger’s funeral and with the technology, Wakanda possesses it would be theoretically possible he could have been saved. Not an idea I particularly like, but what does that matter?
Now to throw some fire on the smoke of those fan theories comes a surprising statement by Courtney B. Vance the husband of Angela Bassett who played T’Challa’s mother in Black Panther. Basset and her husband were being interviewed by ET at an awards show and were asked if everybody (the cast of the first movie) would be back for the sequel to which Basset said ” I think so” before Vance chimed in, with a more definite “yes” and then the surprising “even Michael B.”
So this does give some weight to those hoping and theorizing that Killmonger will somehow return. As I said above, it’s not something I’d be that keen to see unless it was a spiritual version of Killmonger talking with his cousin from the afterlife, like T’Challa conversed with his ancestors. I don’t see the dramatic reason for Killmonger to once again be a villain, that story is told.
