MGM and Warner Bros. have released two new stills for the upcoming boxing sequel Creed II, which will continue the story of Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) and his rise to prominence in professional boxing. Of course, along for the ride is his trainer Rocky Balboa, played by Sylvester Stallone.
Creed II is the long-awaited to follow-up to Creed and will see Adonis go head-to-head with the son of Ivan Drago, the man who killed his father in the ring decades ago in Rocky IV.
In one new image, we see Adonis hard at work hitting the bag, with Rocky giving him a helping hand. In the second image, we see Adonis waiting to walk out to the ring to take on an unspecified opponent (Drago’s son?). One of his trainers looks to be holding a belt — is he defending a title as the light heavyweight champion? One thing I do love about the first image is that it seems to be retaining the grainy and gritty nature of the first one, as evidenced by the film grain.
Below is the official synopsis for Creed II:
“Life has become a balancing act for Adonis Creed. Between personal obligations and training for his next big fight, he is up against the challenge of his life. Facing an opponent with ties to his family’s past only intensifies his impending battle in the ring. Rocky Balboa is there by his side through it all and, together, Rocky and Adonis will confront their shared legacy, question what’s worth fighting for, and discover that nothing’s more important than family. Creed II is about going back to basics to rediscover what made you a champion in the first place, and remembering that, no matter where you go, you can’t escape your history.”
