Critics Give High Praise To DC Universe’s Doom Patrol

Last week we shared the teaser trailer for DC Universe’s new show Doom Patrol. The trailer looks fun, even if the special effects look a little on the cheap side and at the time I wrote the initial article up I said I hoped show ended up as fun as the trailer made it seem. You can catch the trailer in the related section link below.

Now Rotten Tomatoes has a series of reviews from various critics and review outlets and surprisingly it seems by and large that they all love what they have seen so far. The show is currently sitting with a 93% fresh score on the review site. Though, reading some of the reviews in detail it seems as though some reviewers have only seen the first episode whereas others seem to have watched it all. It’s tricky to work out which is which at this time without reading the full review from each site.

Below, I have cobbled together a few highlights as promoted on Rotten Tomatoes from 6 reviews for various outlets. Out of that six, only the bottom-most one had a rotten ranking.

Deadline: Successful in execution… because of a perfectly, wonderful villain.

CBR: The third original series from the fledgling streaming service is wonderfully bizarre and self-aware, exactly what you’d hope for comic book characters once billed as “the World’s Strangest Heroes.”

Collider: If every streaming service needs a breakout original to give it a personality, DC Universe might have found one.

We Got This Covered: In a most welcome and unexpected surprise, DC Universe’s Doom Patrol scores touchdowns right from the get-go. This is the superhero series to watch in 2019.

Screen Rant: Neither Fraser nor Bomer are physically present in the roles of Robotman or Negative Man, which, on any other show might be too weird to really work, but here it just adds to the overall bizarre vibe and weird nature of the program.

Forbes: One can’t help but feel miffed by a lack of desire on the series’ part to own what it is and what it could become.

So far all sounds pretty solid with this show and it’s definitely encouraged me to give it a try, though I may have to wait just a little longer than those in North America as DC Universe doesn’t exist internationally and as such Netflix has the rights to this show abroad. Currently, no release date has been given for the show to appear overseas on the streaming giant. But those of you that subscribe to DC Universe can watch for yourselves starting tomorrow when the show premieres.

Do the positive reviews make you excited for Doom Patrol or are you waiting for some of the fan reviews to come in first? Let us know what you think as always in the comments section below.
