Daredevil Star Vincent D’Onofrio’s Statement After Netflix Cancels Punisher And Jessica Jones

As many predicted, Netflix decided to drop the hammer on its remaining Marvel television titles. Announcing earlier today that both The Punisher and Jessica Jones have been canceled, this move brings an end to the Marvel/Netflix joint productions. Shortly after the news, Punisher star Jon Bernthal took to social media to express his gratitude to the fans. Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb also penned a letter to the loyal fan base.

Joining the two today was Daredevil star Vincent D’Onofrio, who played Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin. He took to his Twitter account to defend the greatness that was the Marvel/Netflix projects.

“A big reason why those Marvel tv shows were so awesome & we were. Is because of a guy named Jeph Loeb who runs the tv branch of Marvel. Jeph & Marvel were responsible putting together amazing show runners & with Larry Marfield a casting genius finding the talent it was indeed great.”

I, for one, fully agree with D’Onofrio. While I thoroughly enjoy the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Netflix shows held a special place in my entertainment heart. The stories felt more grounded and personal, along with an expanded format that opened the door to more complex character development. While Iron Fist had its weaknesses, DaredevilJessica JonesLuke Cage, and The Punisher were quality programs worthy of telling more stories. If there’s any credence regarding Loeb’s final sentences in his letter, maybe we really haven’t seen the last of these characters.

Only time will tell. Until then, viewers can still enjoy the past exploits of these characters as Netflix will still stream the programs.
