Daredevil Was Reportedly Netflix’s Fourth Most Popular Show When It Got Axed

You remember way back when Daredevil was canceled on Netflix? That was pretty sad, wasn’t it? It was most shocking to everyone, though, because of how well received it had been. Sure, the Marvel Netflix shows had seemingly gone down a bit of a downward spiral since Iron Fist hit the streaming service, but most seemed to agree Daredevil Season 3 was a step up.

The next likely reason had to do with the bottom line: ratings. As I’ve stated several times, there was an indication that the Netflix was facing diminishing returns for these shows, as shown by a social media analysis (sadly, the actual ratings for the shows are under lock and key by Netflix). So maybe, in spite of the prestige, that’s the real reason?

RELATED – RUMOR: Marvel — Not Netflix — Responsible For Daredevil’s Cancellation

Well, we have a bit of news regarding that. According to Parrot Analytics, who gauges audience demand on series using some obtuse metric called “Demand Expressions” which measure “Cross-Platform Audience Demand,” (they call this “the most wanted television in the U.S.), Daredevil was sitting pretty in the week leading up to its cancellation at the number four spot, only behind Narcos (no. 1), Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (no. 2), and Stranger Things (no. 3).

In regards as to how this data is captured, here’s what Parrot Analytics says:

“Parrot Analytics’ industry-leading Demand Expression metric accurately measures content demand using an array of global data source inputs every day. The inherently cross-platform nature of the metric means that audience demand for television content from across the industry – SVOD, OTT, linear and cable – can be captured around the world.”

So yeah, their measurements are admittedly pretty damn vague, but this does seem to support recent rumors that Marvel was the one that gave it the chop, not Netflix. It’ll probably be more obvious at a later date just who was responsible. If Daredevil pops up on Hulu in the next several months, we’ll likely know it was a consolidation move by Disney and Marvel.
