Daredevil’s Charlie Cox A Fan Of Ben Affleck’s Take On The Character

Back in 2003, 20th Century Fox released Daredevil starring Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Michael Clarke Duncan and Colin Farrell. Unfortunately the film was not well received by both critics and fans alike. But in 2015 Netflix released their own series based on the Marvel Comics character, starring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock.

This past weekend Cox appeared at Comicpalooza where he answered questions from fans during a panel. One of the questions was about who he thought was a better Daredevil, him or Affleck. His answer was picked up by comicbook.com in which he had no problem saying that he was a fan of Affleck’s performance and that he actually borrowed from Affleck’s take of the character.

“‘Personally, I think… I’m just laughing because I get asked this a lot and sadly I’m going to say the same thing that I’ve said before,’ Cox said. ‘I happen to think Ben Affleck’s performance as Daredevil is fantastic. I really like his Matt Murdock… I stole a lot of stuff.'”

Although he really enjoyed Affleck’s performance, his view on the film as a whole is an entire different story. Noting that one of the issues with the film is that the film’s tone did not match with the those of the Daredevil comic books.

“‘So, I think he does a really good job,’ Cox said. ‘I don’t like the film. The original Daredevil film I don’t think that worked particularly well and the reason I don’t think it worked particularly well is that what we discovered with the show is that the tone of the character suits a slightly darker, more sinister feel. In my opinion the best Daredevil comics are the ones that are geared towards a slightly more mature audience and I think that what the show captures is that level of sinister, dark tone, I guess. But I like Ben Affleck’s Matt Murdock.'”

Without a doubt the film was a mess, but the same cannot be said for the Netflix series which is currently working on it’s third season. We can be sure that they will continue to push the darker gritter tone that Cox feels the series needs. We know that Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onifrio, will be back for the third season to wreak havoc in Hell’s Kitchen as Murdock’s main antagonist.
